LOL!! My dad decided to earn some extra money modelling for stock photos to be used by publishing companies. This is where one turned up:
http://www.amazon.com/Agent-Bishop-Stories-Moonlighting-Mormon/dp/1599553171/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255815855&sr=8-1#reader

Also on Amazon is the book he wrote himself:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=%22Jacob%27s+Hollow%22&x=0&y=0
Now I can say I have been a good daughter and promoted it. *nods* :)

Urk. I've in the past week got two letters from conservative senators thanking me for my support in agreeing with them on issues with which I do not, in fact, agree with them. I'd just chalk it up to my evil twin ( you probably all know the story, and that may be the real explanation), but one of those came by email. I can't imagine a senator, or even office staff thereof, going to the trouble to find an email address for this person. This is starting to creep me out!

Okay, I don't normally read, much less post, news stories that annoy me, and maybe this isn't the biggest thing in the world, BUT...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090902/od_nm/us_advert

As a grown woman who is frequently mistaken for being well under 16, this pisses me off. Am I not allowed to ever be sexy because I have anime-girl features and good skin? If she is really not a minor, then she is not a minor! And who cares about a damn nipple anyway? This society needs to get over some hangups in a big way.

I am on their front page! Not the greatest pic ever, though), 230 S 500 W.
Star Party?

Hm...Haven't looked these up in a long time, but tonight I did ( Yesterday and today are supposed to be the heaviest for the meteor shower, but not much chance to see anything where I am), and I noticed that there is a Star Party planned at Wheeler Farm this Friday night. I am seriously thinking about heading out there---it's a little farther than I usually drive but not that bad, and it's right on 900 E, which I didn't realize. Anyone else interested in going?

This month's Gallery Stroll evening will include four of my tarot-based artworks on display at Art Access( 238 S 500 W), as well as some special limited edition jewelry in their gift shop. The reception, which I believe includes free refreshments, will be from 6-9 pm Friday, Aug 21st. I'd like everyone to turn out and support this, but even if you can't make the reception, remember that the show hangs through Sept 11th, so at least try and get by to see it. Thanks, and please forward to all potentially interested parties!

Just got back from vending at People's Market. Not a great day moneywise( though I guess it's like that for everyone lately), but a couple of interesting things happened. First, there was a pair of Peregrine falcons in the tree right next to my booth, which drew a small crowd (unfortunately most of them were still broke anyway), and then a guy offered to help me load my stuff back into my jeep on the condition that I hold his monitor lizard which was about as long as my height, though mostly tail and only a little thicker than my arm. It was cool, kind of like having a little dragon, but got a bit scary when it hissed at me because I tried to move the tail to avoid stepping on it. He said it does that but it's never actually bitten anyone. Not sure I'd be so confident it won't, but it all worked out okay. I guess it was kind of like a mini zoo-day. :)

Faux-Victorian Chest of Drawers, free to good home

I need to get rid of this thing, my stepbrother was going to take it but he has been unable to borrow a large enough vehicle. It's actually a pretty decent piece of furniture( real solid wood, though probably just pine stained to look like walnut---but still, no flimsy particle board) but it has always been too big for my room, and I bought a nice, more space-efficient antique chest to replace it already, thinking I could swap them out myself if I removed the drawers. I couldn't. SO the catch is, if you want it, YOU have to get it out of my room and haul it off( you'll need a truck or large SUV to accomplish this), and it needs to go through a very narrow doorway that is probably no more than an inch or two wider than the narrowest part of the dresser. It DID come in through that door fully assembled so I know it can go out, but it's tricky and definitely a two-person operation (I laid myself up for more than two months with a back injury after trying it myself), and best if the two people are fairly strong guys. My house is a mess and I'm pretty embarrassed to let anyone come over, but it isn't going to get any better until I can get this out and the other chest of drawers which is in the middle of my livingroom currently, into it's proper place. Because this will involve people actually coming into my bedroom, which really isn't fit for visitors just yet, I'd prefer it if you are at least acquainted with someone I know in real life who can provide an introduction of sorts.

There is also a tall bookshelf which stacks with this to make it kind of a highboy style, you can take that as well if you want but that part has some water damage---the wood is still sound, just needs a light sand and stain to make it match the lower part again.

Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!

Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!

Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!

It is 40 inches wide by 19 inches deep and 30 inches tall.
Breaking News: I will be in a gallery showing at Art Access in August! I had been under the impression they meant in about a year, but they mean a lot sooner than that! OMG!!! Exciting, but a little alarming. However, they only want about four paintings or so because it will be with several other artists, so I should survive.

DA Fashion Show videos/rundown/thanks!

Seems to have been a great success!---I had lots of people come up after the show telling me it was the best ever and even overheard some talking about it the next day. :) I think the fact that we inadvertently referenced Time Bandits helped somewhat, as I know it's on a lot of people's list of favorite films. I have only dim memories of it as I was quite young when I saw it in the theatre as a new movie and for some reason my parents hated it (probably because, IIRC, it was somewhat surreal---I grew up in a house where both Alice In Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were barred as "too weird").

In fact essentially the whole line was inspired by a dream I had several months ago in which I was flirtatiously martial arts fighting( sounds funny, I know!) with Paris (No, not Hilton. The really hot one who used to be in Shadow Project!) at an industrial noise concert in a postapocalyptic ruin. I was wearing the outfit I wore in the video below, he had the long-sleeved slave's outfit on, and there were a lot of cool visuals in the crowd, all of which stood out all the more for being in stark contrast to their setting.

Here are two videos from different cameras, the second one shows the other two designers who were before me.

<lj-embed id="2" />

Dark Arts Festival Modeling
<lj-embed id="3" />

Leashes and choreography advice by http://www.myspace.com/veganboundary

Enormous, heartfelt thanks to all who participated in the show and festival.

Accentuate! has just been confirmed to vend at the LiveGreen Festival Sat May 9th in Library Square, 10am-6pm. Be sure to stop by, and I'll post more reminders closer to the event (don't forget EarthJam is coming up THIS weekend in Liberty Park and I'll be vending at that, too! )

BTW, if you are really bored/dedicated to doing good deeds, LiveGreen is looking for volunteers to wash dishes( so they don't have to waste a ton of paper plates and plastic forks and such edited to add: NB: This is for an eco-friendly beergarden if that makes it more attractive to you), and maybe they have other volunteer needs. You can contact camille@downtownslc.org if you are interested in this. They are also asking everyone to pass the word via email & texts to cut down on physical flyering waste.

Of course, I am *always* looking for volunteer booth help at any event where I'm vending, too.

Am I a total dork( well, by geek standards) for seriously considering wearing this to CONduit this year?

Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!

I usually try to do something anime and/or relatively current since I want to impress prospective customers, but I was just thinking I may not have enough time to do the costume I was planning with all my DA stuff, and of course Trapp Door was playing Flash Gordon( over-the-top camp cheesiness makes me HAPPY! Especially with vodka) on the monitors the other night. Maybe it was the amount of alcohol I had, but this just looked way cool and easy to construct around existing clothing. So what does everyone think?

BTW, here is the one I wanted to do( she's a fire-mage, so I'd get to play with flash paper, and I scored 4 yards of metallic red vinyl at half-price, which is still not very cheap, earlier in the year)---I guess I can hope that I will be able to get into Anime Banzai or Mountaincon this year and still do it for that, though that was a problem last year.

Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!

Technical question for the musical/DJ types

I've been listening to some CDs thinking about what music I want for my DA Fashion Show this year. What I want to know is, is it possible to edit a song when making a copy of a CD, or do you need some kind of special skills or equipment to do this? Basically, there's about 1-minute instrumental sequence at the beginning of a song that would flow a lot better with my show if it was only about 20 seconds. (Of course, I should probably double-check with Donna as to whether we're supposed to estimate 30 or 60 seconds per model, as that would also affect it).

I suppose I could also look around for an existing re-mix...AFAIK there isn't one, but there are many things I don't know, especially in music.

Am I the only one who tends to parse the Southwest Ambulance logo as an eagle-and-swastika when viewing it peripheral vision? I know it's not, but it seems like kind of an odd design choice( is needing an ambulance not a disturbing enough experience already? LOL), and I just wondered if anyone else thought so too.

Mind you, IIRC the Navajos had that design before the Nazis, so maybe they were just thinking "Southwestern theme", but Native Americans weren't noted for hauling people off in "ambulances", so...:P

For those that don't live here/haven't seen it, it's actually just a stylized S and W with a St. Andrew's cross under it, but it's not all that easy to sort that out at a distance.

Writer's Block: Fearsome

The boogeyman, global thermonuclear war, being forced to eat broccoli—there's a lot to be afraid of when you're a kid. What was your biggest childhood fear?

View 501 Answers

So many to choose from on this one. If you think I'm a nervous person now, you should have known me as a kid. A few possibilities:

1. Outhouses and public toilets. My mom said this one started when I was very little and was scared by a wasp in an outhouse (probably correct, since apparently I had the habit when small of referring to outhouses/bathrooms I didn't like as "Bee potties"). For some reason, though, I ended up becoming much more afraid of unfamiliar bathrooms than I ever was of wasps or bees.

2. Anyone wearing white, presumably because I had tons of birth complications and had to have lots of painful tests, IVs, and whatever else done while an infant, so I associated anyone wearing white with doctors, nurses, and NEEDLES. Lasted till I was about 7 or so and could distinguish doctors' uniforms from other white clothing. Come to think of it they don't usually wear white anymore.

3. Probably the weirdest/funniest one...JELLO! Other kids loved it because it wiggled. I was terrified of it for the same reason and would start to cry whenever it was brought out for dessert. It's not scary now, but I still don't like to eat it.

R.I.P. Mr. Whiskers

I've been feeling regret that I never took of a photo of him, so I think I at least owe the little guy a blog post. I didn't give him that name, but as he was born deaf and never knew what he was called, it didn't much matter to him. Deaf ferrets are often incorrigible biters( hearing a squeal of pain and thus knowing when to quit is an important part of ferret socialization), but this one never bit anyone as far as I know. Despite being such a sweetie, I was his third home---apparently he just never found the right people. He was only about 4 1/2-5 years old, equal to about a 45-50 year old human, but I had noticed he seemed to tire easily despite being in outwardly good health and happy. I suspect that, given his deafness and white coloring( which often goes with genetic flaws in ferrets), he may have suffered a congenital heart defect. He passed away peacefully in his sleep sometime yesterday afternoon.

I'm a little concerned for his cagemate Fizzgig. Depression in ferrets is practically a contradiction in terms, but she does seem restless and to be looking for him, and she is quite elderly for a ferret( 10 years), so losing her companion at that age is bound to be difficult for her. Asta, my likewise elderly cattle-dog mix, has been engaging her in some light (one-paw) wrestling, which is probably to the good.
Not so much "advice", but it creeped me out because I can't imagine why someone would make a fortune cookie that sounds like a threat---"You think it is a secret but it has never been one". Maybe it's just me, with my chronic nightmares of Orwellian dystopia and dread of both stalkers and interpersonal gossip, but to me that just is...*shudder*
